Squash blossom that forgot to close

Squash blossom that forgot to close

The cool weather seems to be confusing the squash plants. Usually the flowers are closed by noon, but this was still wide open to what little sun warmed the gray sky this afternoon. What I wanted to know is whether there were any squash bees inside.

Not exactly. I found a big bumblebee, a little bumble, and underneath, a shiny green sweat bee (who was camera shy). Why, these aren’t squash bees. These are, these are, (must. resist.pun) mashed bees.

That’s one way to keep warm.
